Woodlands community partnerships help to expand horizons of neglected and abandoned youth
Thanks to the Olive Garden, youth living at the We Care Center had an opportunity to experience world class Italian food for the first time as part of an outreach program initiated by Woodlands ARTreach and volunteers from Woodsedge Church. Many of the youth living at We Care are coming from underpriviledged backgrounds, many have been neglected or abused and are serving probational sentences while undergoing treatment of depression, drugs or anxiety.
Woodlands ARTreach is partnering We Care to bring expressive art programs to the youth on a regular basis. Vickie McMillan is a professional teaching artist and ARTreach Director overseeing projects at the facility. ARTreach wishes to thank Woodsedge church for supporting We Care by donating art supplies and for providing volunteers to assist in special We Care ARTreach projects. Thank you to the Olive Garden for providing a special dinner, it was many of the youth’s first fine dining experience. ARTreach projects, field trips to restaurants and community events are part of the Expanding Horizons program being initiated by ARTreach and community volunteers to support the children’s well being and recovery while in treatment at We Care.
