Program Evaluation

Programs for At-Risk Youth. Success is based on student testimony and enthusiasm, and evaluated by measuring the number of behavioral infractions occurring during times the art program is in session versus the times art is not in place. A combination of pre- and post-test surveys of students regarding their knowledge of art, plus testimony and interviews with their teachers, therapists and staff are incorporated into the evaluation process to discern the impact the students’ participation in the arts has on treatment outcomes.

ARTreach programs in Residential Treatment Facilities and Alternative Schools for Behavior Management, which utilize teaching artists in the core academic environment, provide measurable benefits to teachers and students. In one six-week term, we tracked 100% fewer behavioral incidents resulting in referrals to the principal or in-school suspension on days that Art was being utilized in the classroom as a teaching tool in the core subject areas of Science, History, Math and English.

Programs for the Elderly or Special Needs Communities.  Each program success is summarized and promoted in a way that increases awareness for these needs. ARTreach advocacy campaigns are designed to build a community’s better appreciation for the impact the arts have on meeting the educational and therapeutic objectives associated with the populations being served. Most of our success is documented through testimony provided by students, teachers, administration, parents and volunteers involved in the programs.
